The farm is truly enchanting with its rolling green hills and fields. Walking through the beautiful gardens dotted with roses, you are suddenly transported to the English countryside. Then the “moos“ of Nguni cattle bring you back to the Natal farm landscape.
Our 55m2 custom-made tents are fully furnished and equipped with a private kitchen, lounge, en-suite bathroom (with private shower and toilet), two comfy bedrooms with real beds (each tent sleeps a total of five guests), a fireplace, air-conditioning and a wooden deck. There is an outdoor wood-fired hot tub next to each tent and is the perfect place to take in the picturesque views.
*COVID-19: We have updated our booking alteration policy to give guests more flexibility to change their booking dates. Please view or Terms and Conditions for more information.
In Room Facilities:Each AfriCamps tent consists of a spacious open plan lounge area with a comfortable couch, a dining area with a solid wooden table and seating for five guests, a fully-equipped kitchen, two bedrooms that comfortably sleeps five guests, and a bathroom complete with hot shower, flushing toilet and washbasin. Each tent has its own private outdoor wood-fired hot tub, perfect for cooling off during hot summers or warming up in winter.
Both bedrooms are furnished with an extra-length queen-size bed and have their own private entrance which allows maximum privacy. One of the bedrooms also contains a single bunk bed. Our tents are equipped with air-conditioning and an indoor fireplace. Enjoy a braai on our spacious wooden decks and take in the views from the comfortable deck loungers. Pull up the front covers and transform the tent into a large outdoor living area. Unwind and appreciate a festive family breakfast while taking in the serene natural beauty of the South African landscape.
Area Information:The Midlands Meander route is popular for the relaxed atmosphere, picturesque countryside and welcoming people. Here you will experience a variety of stunning nature, adventure activities, South African history, local crafts and delectable country-style food spots.
Property Facilities:The property is graced by the crystal clear Mpofana river which flows strongly through the farm. As part of a water scheme, the river also provides water to the farm. A hollowed-out section in the river is a great spot to go for a dip or enjoy the river from the banks by settling down for a picnic. Try your luck and catch yellowtail or trout – strictly catch and release. Guests can enjoy a 4 km walk through the indigenous forest where they will see the enormous 500-year-old Yellowwood tree, pass the river, the newly planted kiwi fields and Nguni cattle. Take a stroll through the gorgeous rose gardens on the farm and settle down at a grassy picnic spot.
Attractions:Nearby attractions include Howick Falls, Midmar Dam, Karkloof Falls, Highmoor Nature Reserve, the Maloti Drakensberg Park, The Nelson Mandela Capture Site and well-loved food and craft spots, Notties Junction and Piggly Wiggly. The relaxed atmosphere and the hospitality of its people will ensure guests book their return visit to the enchanting Midlands.

It was great!
Had a blast 😁
We had the most pleasant stay even with the rainy weather. We will be back. Everything from the tent to the hot tub was an amazing experience.
Great Glamping experience overall! The family really enjoyed the experience/ weekend away from the kids to their grandparents. There are variety of amenities and activities on the farm, loads of fun!
Magical experience. Had an amazing time.Very friendly and accommodating hosts and staff were really friendly and had a pleasant manner. Look forward to my next visit.
Such a lovely stay at Gowan Valley AfriCamps! Lovely units, fully equipped and comfortable. Very private with other units a good distance from each other. The hot tub is an absolute treat. We took our own wood as the initial start takes about 3hours and moderate amount of wood. Would also suggest taking your own camp fridge when staying longer (or with more food to keep cold for kids.)
The farm is lovely with fantastic play ground for kids, beautiful forest walk (we loved the forest swing!) and nice picnic areas next to the river.
Thank you Deanne for towing our sedan and trailer up the slippery and muddy incline to our unit! The rain made the drive just a bit too slippery but it was easily manageable with a normal sedan and trailer once dry.
We will definitely be back!
Was a short but very enjoyable stay

There are a variety dining and activities and places in Balgowan. The fresh outdoors was great and beautiful scenery and our pictures show that!
Interesting and quaint places to visit.
Piggly wiggly is very pleasant.
We love the Midlands area. We like visiting Piggly Wiggly with the kids. Also had a nice lunch at Terbodore Coffee Roastery. The Funtasy shop at the Connection in Nottingham Road is a must stop for such nice toys and books.
Lots to see and do in Balgowan. Beautiful.
