Nieuwoudtville is a town in Namakwa District Municipality in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It lies on the Bokkeveld Escarpment, and was established in 1897. The Nieuwoudtville Falls on the Doring River are located a few kilometers north of the town. Nieuwoudtville is in the Succulent Karroo Biome, which has less than 200 mm rainfall in winter and is even more arid in summer. Nieuwoudtville is extremely popular tourist destination in South Africa especially during the wild flower season. The reasons for Nieuwoudtville popularity is because of its unique placement in the Karoo. Karoo plain is known as the Bokkeveld, it has a reputation as the bulb capital of the world. During spring geophytes also known as bulbs flowers, bloom in the area around town and very rain dependent. There is a wide variety of things in Nieuwoudtville such as a Waterfalls just outside the town, there is the quiver tree forest, local sandstone ruins, glacial pavement, the Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve and a myriad activities that include bird watching, hiking and a lot of star gazing.

Area Information:We pride our self as a community (about two - three thousand population) that are still in contact with one another and a way of life and respect for other human beings and animals that you will have to go far to find the same. We are well know for our flowers in August to October every year, but for the person who has an eye for detail, there is flowers (not in the abundance you find in Aug to Oct) but they do flower and different flowers every day of the year, with a different type coming to bloom every month. Then we are proud to give you experiences like tea harvesting Jan to April and potato harvest and packaging from March to April. Sheep farming all year round and wheat in Oct.

Nature experiences
We love going on alternate routes and roads less travelled. Nieuwoudtville is at the crossroads of several of these. It is delightfully antique and rural and the scenery is stark and harshly beautiful. We recommend the waterfall (even if not flowing) and the quiver tree forest and the Brandkop village ruins (for photographers).

Stayed at Karabo Lodge Self Catering. Well recommended.
Besides the annual spring flower show there are various other points of interest such as the waterfalls and kloof, the Kokerboom forest, an amazing private motorbike collection and the Oorlogskloof a little further.

It is a great destination in the flower season.
We were lucky to have beautiful weather and the display flowers on the various farms were superb.
We particularly liked the trekpad with its large variety of annual flowers.
We enjoyed the local cuisine at Matjiesfontein padstal & Smidswinkel restaurant.
