We have three beautiful self-catering accommodation options on our 1200 hectare farm. We are 195km from Cape Town, which means our cottages are easily accessible for weekend getaways. All units enjoy vast views over the Ceres Karoo to the Roggeveld mountains. Distance from artificial lights means that our night skies are crystal clear and offer the perfect conditions for star-gazing. All cottages are comfortable and very well appointed.
In Room Facilities:Whilst all our cottages have their unique look and feel, all are very stylish and well-equipped. All units have private swimming pools for those warm summer days and closed fireplaces to ward off that winter chill. All cottages have Smeg ovens/hobs as well as fridge/freezers. Free WIFI is available.
Area Information:As we are self-catering and off the beaten-track (our closest town is Ceres which is 60kms away), please be sure that you bring all you need for your stay - this includes enough fuel! We provide firewood and additional wood can be purchased if required. Our tap water is drinkable.
High clearance vehicles are a definite advantage on our farm roads.
We rely on solar power thus ironing of bed linen is not possible. Should you wish your bed linen to be ironed, please let us know in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.
Doggie guests can be accommodated by arrangement. This means no dogs on furniture or in the pools as our solar pumps struggle to deal with the hair/sand. Please note that there is no Vodacom reception and the others are very erratic/weak and often have no signal).
Guests have access to the entire farm (1200 hectares) but should respect the privacy of the guests in the other cottages.
Attractions:An ideal getaway for bird-watching, hiking, mountain biking, stargazing and total peace and quiet. Having said that stoep-sitting seems to be one of the most popular activities! Expect to leave de-stressed, relaxed and not wanting to go home!

Amazing Amazing Amazing
I have travelled and stayed at many properties around the world and can honestly say that Dragon Rock is one of the best.
The location is remote and amazing.
The views are stunning.
And the cottage is incredible.
Attention to detail is second to none and the cottage provides an oasis of luxury and comfort in a aread of wilderness.
Everything has been thought of meticulously and provided in spades.
The welcome was warm and honest and a greeting of two people totally proud of the beautiful property they have created.
I was tempted not to leave a review as this is one place I would like to keep to myself and to return time and time again but sometimes you have to share these rare special retreats.
Well done to you both.
See you again soon.
Very best wishes
Adam
Even though we had two cold fronts coming over the Karoo, while staying at Tierkloof Mountain Cottages, it didn't deter the enjoyment of our stay. Elsa and Robin have gone to great length to make both the indoor and outdoor areas very comfortable and enjoyable with seats, sofas, pool loungers and daybed. They provided plenty of wood for the braai and Kolkol hot tub, which we used every evening. Sadly, it was a little too cold for the plunge pool.
Dragon Rock cottage is extremely well-appointed and there is very little one would miss. You hardly notice being off-grid and they have even found a great solution for making a decent cup of coffee with a manual espresso maker and battery operated milk frother. Happy days :-)
If you are like us and revel in peace and solitude, Dragon Rock is the best cottage for you. We loved its private location and stunning views across the Karoo and up into the valley - the best of both worlds. Leopard trail runs from the cottage straight into this rugged valley and Max the farm dog kept us on the straight and narrow. His furry presence was a wonderful addition - he is so gentle and sweet.
Thank you Elsa and Robin for making my birthday weekend into a memorable one and the cold bubbles were a lovely surprise.

Quiet and friendly town and great surroundings for activities as hiking and 4x4.

Everything was amazing, the hosts and the game drive in particular. We would recommend! - Meghan
The scenery! Wine tasting, gin tasting, blockhouse, crafts, farm stalls.
Ample shops and activities.
The country feel and friendly people. Steers has the best coffee!! Enough shops for browsing around.
Snow hunting in Geydo pass.
The wide open spaces, the barren beauty and the age old rock formations and starry night skies.
