*Donkerhoek Country Living offers a 12-sleeper, self-catering home in a beautiful bushveld area only 20 minutes from Pretoria. The house has two double bedrooms, one room with 2 bunk beds (i.e., four beds), a sleeper couch, and two child beds
*Our house is fully solar powered and features a rainwater harvesting system for water supply that can be supplemented with borehole water. We also sport a fancy composting toilet and make use of grey water for the other toilets
*With a big barbecue and a lovely deck area, we offer the ideal family weekend getaway. We are proudly fully sustainable with an off-grid solar system and a rainwater harvesting system
In Room Facilities:*The kitchen has a gas stove/gas oven combination and we do not make use of microwaves due to their high power consumption
*Guests are advised that the dishwasher, hair dryers (or other high-wattage equipment) can only be used from 10 am - 4 pm when the sun is shining. For rainy days when the solar system is not charging, we have a backup generator
*No smoking, parties, or events. We do not offer Wi-Fi or microwave and have no cleaning services
Area Information:*You will have access to the property (30 ha) for hiking, birdwatching, picnics, etc
We live with our dogs, horses, and donkeys, and guests are requested to approach all wild and domestic animals with care
Our dogs, cats, horses, and donkeys also live on the property but will not be in your fenced area. The house has a camera system which will be off in the immediate vicinity of the house during your visit except for key security points. Guests are advised not to interact with any wildlife as we are in a natural environment

In the tranquil environment at Donkerhoek Country Living, one can experience the peace and quiet of nature. A closeness with nature is experienced while listening to the many bird calls early in the morning. Families can get together at the braai area on deck and see the sunset, or at the lovely picnic spot looking over the veld. The house is comfortable and well equipped, truly an enjoyable experience.
We visited Iemke’s place and it felt like home! It is such a lovely farm house and the quiet setting is food for your soul. It is not luxurious but very comfortable and neat. We enjoyed sitting on the stoep for breakfast and braai and to go for a picnic in the bushveld.
