Dornhügel Guestfarm offers a unique family atmosphere and a tasteful ambiance to its guests experiencing the fascinating life on a Namibian farm.
Our eight spacious guestrooms are all individually decorated and surround the lush green courtyard – our Oasis in the middle of the farm.
All rooms are equipped with mosquito nets so that you can choose to enjoy the African night air seeping in through the windows or you can escape the heat and have a restful sleep by making use of the air conditioners that we have installed in each room.
Each room has WLAN (Wifi) reception, Mini-Bar and an en-suite bathroom with a shower and a separate toilet.
Each room has an animal name that is indigenous to the area – Suricate; Kudu; Guinea Fowl; Gecko and Zebra look toward the bush. Porcupine and Giraffe room has a view of the garden and fruit-trees growing in the courtyard.
Kudu room can be converted into a family unit with either one or two extra beds for children sharing with parents.
Suricate room can be converted to a family unit but, is also adapted to facilitate a physically challenged guest in a wheelchair.
Gecko room is close to the swimming pool and restaurant, ideal for elderly guests who wish to be close to the main area.
Oryx suite, located a short distance outside the courtyard. It is a double story unit with the best view of the farm from the upper-level room. The two twin rooms and a large sharing bathroom is ideal for families with older children or friends traveling together.
All rooms come with a large and high quality en-suite bathroom with shower and WC, a fully equipped mini-bar and an air condition to make sure that the heat is kept out of your room.
Area Information:The farm is situated in the north of Namibia close to the city of Grootfontein and next to the D2844. You will pass through it on your way to untouched Bushmanland and the Caprivi region.
The farm is home to a fascinating variety of wild game, which can be discovered on every farm drive. The farm breeds cattle, Damara sheep, and Basotho horses. Horse riding is unfortunately not an option.
Besides the acacia bushveld and indigenous flora, giraffes, zebras, kudus, eland antelopes, and countless warthogs can be seen on Dornhügel.
Property Facilities:Large umbrellas and pool loungers next to the swimming pool offer perfect relaxation for the adults while the kids enjoy the playground. Dornhügel Bar and Restaurant cater exclusively for in-house guests and are famous for their cured beef cuts roasted on an open BBQ fire.
Attractions:Farm Life & Wild Game
Join a scenic drive on an open 4x4 vehicle to learn more about the day to day activities and maintenance on a farm. Dornhügel is one of the largest farms in the area, 11 000 hectares of farmland that sustains a healthy population of wildlife that live side by side the domesticated cattle, sheep, and horses. Each farm excursion is unique and is conducted either during the mornings or evenings with a chance to see a few nocturnal animals.
Guests are welcome to familiarise themselves with nature by taking a hike or cycling the well-marked Makalani Palm tree trail on the farm. In the garden, guests can choose between the swimming pool, ping-pong, gym, or darts. There is also volleyball and a tennis court to play on.
