Join us at Penwarn Farm, located in the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg, for a stunning farm lodge escape.
Rustic yet modern, Penwarn Farm Lodge has 6 self catering cottages just 25km from the quaint, little town of Underberg in South Africa. As you drive down the Khyber Pass, you’ll be greeted with the all the beauty that Penwarn has to offer.
The farm lodge lies in an exquisite valley surrounded by lakes, and borders Highlands Farm which was established in 1886. Over 3400 hectares of land is farmed by the fifth generation of Nicholson’s, raising cattle and sheep and planting maize and potatoes for the market.
Sharing the grasslands are zebra, hartebeest and blesbok. Birdlife is of abundance and the cranes and wild geese can be spotted from the comfort of your room. Penwarn truly is an animal enthusiast’s paradise!
The ambience of the farm is relaxed, rustic, and modern, and is perfect for a variety of occasions including weddings, conferences, family adventures and romantic getaways. PLEASE NOTE there is 16km of gravel road to Penwarn. Wifi is free at reception, cellphone signal is weak but there is a booster at reception. NO RESTAURANT ON PROPERTY

Underberg forms part of the Sani Saunter, not as well known as the Midlands Meander perhaps, but offering as many outdoor opportunities and scenery to equal if not challenge the former.
The Sani Saunter extends from Loteni in the north to Bushman’s Nek in the south, and east to Bulwer, including the little town of Underberg and her quaint neighbour, Himeville, just 5 kilometres away, and as its name indicates, there is access to numerous hikes and walks in this part of the world.

The 16 Sleeper, Penwarn Manor, is absolutely amazing and the 10 sleeper, Mthini, are real gems to stay in.
If you are looking for a beautiful location with a large group of people, the Penwarn is the place to go. It can sleep 45 people in its 6 self-catering units.
What an amazing place. Beautiful setting and stunning units. Everything was clean and the staff were amazing.
The waterfall walk was great and the Rock Pool was so beautiful and relaxing. We had a try at Bass fishing and caught amazing fish.
We had such an awesome weekend staying in the manor last weekend. Was perfect for our big crowd of friends and kids. Will be back soon.
Hi, we just wanted to send a massive thank you to your team for a very pleasant weekend. We had such a fun time exploring and relaxing on the farm. My husband and I are birders and we managed to see 72 species which was quite spectacular for a rainy and overcast weekend. Your farm is absolutely exquisite and we were literally 'wowed' around every corner by how beautiful it is. Thank you for having us. We have told all our friends about this proper little gem of a place. x
