We pride ourselves in being green; providing our own electricity and water from natural resources, as well as effluent treatment, making us independent from the national power grid and other municipal services. Our main farming activity is the growth of rainbow and brown trout and organic pecan nuts. At Outeniqua Trout Lodge, we pride ourselves on participating in responsible sustainable tourism. The ever-changing mountains form the backdrop to this picturesque farm. It is a perfect retreat; a place where the "Absolute Peace" will restore weary souls, and the only sounds are bird songs and the cry of the Fish Eagle.
The lodge section of the farm is separate from the growing and farming area and is a secure peaceful environment. Guests are welcome to explore the farm on foot or learn more about our responsible sustainable farming and how we generate our own electricity with hydro and solar power.

Third stay, awesome as always!
Heerlike, stil, weg van die rumoer en tegnologie-lewe. Pragtige uitsig in die dag en skoon hemelruim in die aand.
Spent 2 days and nights, what a wonderful experience. Ingo and Gisselle were the perfect hosts and there to help with anything you needed. Left there feeling rejuvenated and ready to tackle the city again for a while. Definitely will be back shortly!!
Loved our stay and will always recommend!

A place to be mindful, find restoration and peace... blesbok and beautiful tame ponies that wondering over daily to say hello, natural springs and so much more... vistas that knock leave you gobsmacked....
Discover this secret that Ingo and Gizelle have cultivated into into a rare piece of paradise and you'll never look back.
Thank you, Ingo, for the most amazing experience of our lives....we hope to be back very very very soon again. You were right when you said we will wish we had booked for longer....
We were travelling and staying at a different place each night. Bain's Retreat at the Outeniqua Trout Lodge was voted the best of all the overnight stays we had experienced. And such interesting and friendly proprietors!.
Our third stay here and it is always lovely. Accommodation is clean, fully equipped and wonderfully located. Will definitely be returning.
Wonderful out of the way stay in a clean and very well equipped self catering unit. The timber homes have very nice views and provides the ideal setting for a most enjoyable stay.
We would love to go back some time in the future!
The accommodation was neat and clean but you need to bring everything you may need as no basic provisions like salt etc.
You need a 4 wheel drive to get to the lodges as the road is very bad with lots of rocks and stones. Three of us had to get out of the car and walk up (quite a distance) to the lodge while the driver navigated the steep track to bring the luggage up.It is not suitable for an average car. The property looks neglected and the pool is not fit to swim in.
The hosts Ingo and Naomi were great and we would certainly go back again.

It’s a place to switch off, no signal, just be in nature!
Peace and quiet, feels like you have stepped back a few years.
Quiet, remote, secluded, great place to get away from it all!
