Otter's Bend Lodge is situated on a ‘farm', in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, surrounded by wine and fruit farms. A foot track leads you off Dassenberg Road through paddock and pear orchard down to the Franschhoek River. You will find Otter's Bend Lodge nestled in amongst poplars, oaks and yellowwoods on the banks of a bend in the river - a nature lover's dream. Its tranquil rustic ambience makes it hard to believe that it is only a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive to the centre of Franschhoek village.
In Room Facilities:Each of the five cosy rooms in log cabin style leads out through double doors onto a deck under the poplars.
High wooden ceilings and high triangular windows enhance the feeling of being outdoors and surrounded by nature. Although small and compact the rooms have everything you need for a comfortable stay and the beds guarantee a good night’s sleep. Each room has a shower, basin and toilet en suite with hot and cold running water. Bedding, pillows and towels are provided. Heaters and additional blankets help to keep the winter chill at bay. Three-prong electrical plugs are in each room.
Area Information:Otter’s Bend Lodge is the ideal base from which you can venture out to explore the Franschhoek Valley and surrounding winelands. It is also a comfortable hour’s drive from Cape Town, half an hour from both Stellenbosch and Paarl, 45 minutes from Somerset West and an hour and a half from Hermanus.
Property Facilities:Otter's Barrel, the large open communal room, serves as the meeting place for all the Otter's guests.
It is dominated by a huge (36,000 litre) oak wine vat as well as a chunk of yellowwood which serves as the large table top. You will hear firsthand what others have enjoyed in the valley - be it wine tasting, restaurants, hiking, activities or places of interest.
The room is equipped for self-caterers with cutlery, crockery, fridge, microwave, kettle, hot plate and kitchen utensils. An old traditional wood burning stove adds charm to the atmosphere as well as flavour to any meal. If you wish to cook on an open fire, make use of the huge fireplace or braai facilities.

I came here 10 years ago with my sister and was happy to visit again.
Mary is a lovely host and the rooms are clean and homely. Coffee, tea, milk is provided.
Listening to the river and trees moving in the wind after a busy holiday in CT was welcomed.
The location and price of your stay at Ottersbend is an extremely lucky find.
Can’t wait to come back.
This charming accommodation is located close to the city centre, making it perfect for exploring the area. The hosts ensure a warm welcome and pleasant stay. The vintage country social lounge is truly amazing, adding a unique touch to the experience.
We enjoyed our stay!
The stay was lovely, and mostly peaceful. The communal area is amazing.
The only thing that marred it for me was the Sunday noise from neighboring properties.
Will choose Otters bend Lodge in the future again. Fantastic.!!!
What a gem of a find! Otters bend is tranquil and perfectly located to explore all that Franschoek has to offer. I stayed in the double room, overlooking the wooden deck - accommodation was clean and comfortable. The communal facilities are also well equipped for cooking, eating, relaxing. Lovely fireplace for an indoor fire on those chilly days/evenings. Also a lovely opportunity to meet other travelers and enjoy a board game or two. Friendly staff and tranquil setting!
Accommodation was average, comfortable enough. All the bigger units do not have a patio and braai as advertised and we had to request to be moved to another unit. Also, there was a lot of noise on the roof throughout the night due to a squirrel or rodent and we could not sleep. Not mush to do at the actual venue but conveniently close to town.
Always good to visit Otters Bend...
Beautiful surroundings and very decent considering it is a backpackers.
Always so relaxing and great for kids. Hosts are exceptionally friendly and accommodating.

Always a pleasure to go to a beautiful, clean well-run town. You can walk the town & find great restaurants, interesting shops & even play boules.
The Wine Train for sure
So many wonderful places to eat including lovely outdoor courtyards with live music; lovely bespoke shops plus some necessities like Clicks; incredible world-class wine estates with wine tasting & pairing experiences and the wine tram; lovely accommodation well-tiered; safe to walk around. For an outstanding experience and meal I would recommend La Petite Colombe on Leeu estates.
The view, the quietness, the restaurants,, the wine estates.
Wine tasting trains and trams. Scenery and location.
The relaxed vibe...
Clean, feels safe and beautiful views and hikes.
The village vibe and how safe it is. Also, everyone can walk to where they want to go, instead of getting into a car every time.
Weather, shops, restaurants. Access to vineyards, trips, park run.
Holiday atmosphere without crowded chaos.
