La Roche Estate is a place of passion. Passion for beauty, excellence, and for the environment. And we strive to make it a timeless place of peace and tranquillity for the ages.
When the property was bought over a quarter of a century ago, it was a poorly run farm with a few acres of grapes, 2 small lakes, an orchard and a swamp. Our first priority was to drain the swamp and increase the quantity and quality of the land under our vineyards.
In the distant past the Berg River ran through the property and an underground river still persists through the Robertsvlei valley providing fresh water to the community. Many people said this was an impossible effort.
With typical aplomb we refused to listen to the naysayers and created a large canal that runs through the lowest part of the land on the property, and allows the excess to run into the lower lake that is home to our Sanctuary. Water always takes the easiest route and over a few years the idea worked amazingly well and today La Roche has 40 hectares of grapes under cultivation.
La Roche not only grows grapes of a superior quality that have contributed to many fine wines over the years, but its vines are an exercise in aesthetic beauty and closely managed all year round. The estate takes its name from the huge rock in the centre of the valley left by the last glacial age. (Die Klip translated well to La Roche).
We have also in the last few years planted a pecan orchard on a few hectares of our land, as well as installed Apiary’s to assist mother nature in producing more, and higher quality produce on our farm.

Franschhoek Reviews
Always a pleasure to go to a beautiful, clean well-run town. You can walk the town & find great restaurants, interesting shops & even play boules.
The Wine Train for sure
So many wonderful places to eat including lovely outdoor courtyards with live music; lovely bespoke shops plus some necessities like Clicks; incredible world-class wine estates with wine tasting & pairing experiences and the wine tram; lovely accommodation well-tiered; safe to walk around. For an outstanding experience and meal I would recommend La Petite Colombe on Leeu estates.
The view, the quietness, the restaurants,, the wine estates.
Wine tasting trains and trams. Scenery and location.
The relaxed vibe...
Clean, feels safe and beautiful views and hikes.
The village vibe and how safe it is. Also, everyone can walk to where they want to go, instead of getting into a car every time.
Weather, shops, restaurants. Access to vineyards, trips, park run.
Holiday atmosphere without crowded chaos.
