Area Information:

Schrikkloof Nature Reserve is a 700-hectare estate in the Waterberg area, with traversing rights on another 500 hectares.

This nature reserve in the Limpopo province of South Africa is not home to the ‘Big 5’, but leopard, buffalo, and over 20 other indigenous wildlife species roam the land.
The lodge is ideally suited for eco-tourism offering unobstructed views of the animals and an endless variety of natural habitat.

Property Facilities:

Breakfast and dinner are included in your stay with us, and you’ll be amazed at the quality of our food.
Optionally you can enjoy a light lunch with us.

Also, outside, nestled in the garden, is a pool with sundeck, and a boma with a braai. Several water features add to the feeling of luxury, and our non-intrusive staff will make you feel at home.

Attractions:

1) Visit Our Lions:
Schrikkloof is also host to The Lions Foundation.
This is a subsidiary of Stichting Leeuw in The Netherlands, a rescue center which gives shelter to discarded circus lions and tigers, surplus zoo animals and big cats from private owners.

The foundation aims to relocate these predators to their natural habitat in the semi-wild. The lions that are stable enough move from Stichting Leeuw to The Lions Foundation in Schrikkloof Nature Reserve.
There they receive a warm welcome and are given a 1,5-hectare home in their natural environment.
After years of being exploited for human entertainment, they will find a forever home at The Lions Foundation.

2) Afternoon Nature Drive:
Included with every two nights stay. Having previously been a game farm, lots of game still roam the area, like buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope, kudu, nyala, eland, wildebeest, hartebeest, waterbuck and more.
The estate is also a haven for wild animals, like warthog, bush pig, porcupine, baboon, aardvark, aardwolf, brown hyena, and the occasional leopard. The area hosts many bird species.

3) Visit to the herd of rescued donkeys
The estate is a strictly no-hunting reserve – the well-being and conservation of the fauna and flora is our number one priority. We have taken in neglected and rehabilitated donkeys, that roam free on an enclosed part of the estate.

Secluded reserve with many species of game and birds. We had a luxury room in a double chalet, with great views - giraffes! Short walk to the main lodge, with decks, pools and bar. Great safari drives with the very knowledgable ranger. Impressive visit to The Lions Foundation, which provides a home for rescued lions exploited for human entertainment. Excellent food, good service. Will definitely come back!
