Built on the side of the Joala Boholo Mountain with stunning views of the beautiful Boschfontein Farm and the Maluti Mountains, Boschfontein Mountain Lodge is a double-storey sandstone self-catering lodge located 18 km from Ficksburg, on the Ficksburg-Fouriesburg road.
The lodge can accommodate up to 18 guests in total, and consists of 4 units that can each accommodate between 4 to 5 guests. These 4 units are each furnished with a queen-size bed and has a private fireplace on the ground floor that is perfect for the chilly winter nights, as well as a private bathroom with a shower, and a toilet. On the first floor, Units 1 and 4 offer 2 three-quarter beds for the 3rd and 4th guests, while Units 2 and 3, each offer 3 three-quarter beds for the 3rd, 4th and 5th guests. Linen and towels are provided for your convenience.
Please note there are fairly steep stairs connecting the downstairs bedrooms to the upstairs bedrooms, which should be taken into consideration when booking for elderly and frail guests, or families with small children.
The 4 units share the use of a communal kitchen, dining area, bar area, and lounge area, as well as the indoor and outdoor braai areas, and verandahs with beautiful views. Note that the shared living areas are cleaned daily. Gas geysers provide hot water to the bathrooms and the kitchen, and wood is provided for the fireplaces and the braai areas for your convenience.
Built out of local, hand dressed sandstone, the ceiling and some of the wood furniture were made from sourced wood from alien invasive trees on the beautiful farm. Boschfontein Mountain Lodge is considered off-the-grid - the water is provided directly from a mountain spring, and solar power provides electricity to the fridge, lights and plug points which are located in the kitchen and outside bar area.
Boschfontein Farm is a working sheep, cattle and game farm, and has a small, 100-year-old cherry orchard that produces the Early Red variety of delicious cherries.
Activities available on request on the farm:
Fishing, target and clay pigeon shooting, mountain trails and river walks for walking, running, hiking or mountain biking, game drives, cherry liqueur tasting, and a tour of the Pinedene Small Arms Museum.
The game camp is stocked with red hartebeest, impala, zebra, ostriches, waterbuck, springbuck, blesbuck, black wildebeest, and eland. Game viewing is mainly done in a Land Rover.
