Nieuwoudtville is extremely popular during the wild flower season, and indeed, because of its unique placement in the Karoo plain known as the Bokkeveld, where the Hantam Karoo meets Cape Fynbos, it has a reputation as the bulb capital of the world.

Attractions:The Nieuwoudtville Waterfall, situated on the Doorn River, is 7km north of Nieuwoudtville on the R357 (Loeriesfontein Road).
This 90m waterfall is a spectacular sight when water thunders down into the deep pool during our rainy season.
The Quiver Tree Forest is 25 km north of town on the Loeriesfontein road. At the Gannabos sign, turn right onto a gravel road and travel along this road for about 5km. The Quiver Tree Forest is the largest in the world and the southernmost concentration of Quiver Trees in South Africa. Viewing times 06:00-18:00.

Nature experiences
We love going on alternate routes and roads less travelled. Nieuwoudtville is at the crossroads of several of these. It is delightfully antique and rural and the scenery is stark and harshly beautiful. We recommend the waterfall (even if not flowing) and the quiver tree forest and the Brandkop village ruins (for photographers).

Besides the annual spring flower show there are various other points of interest such as the waterfalls and kloof, the Kokerboom forest, an amazing private motorbike collection and the Oorlogskloof a little further.

It is a great destination in the flower season.
We were lucky to have beautiful weather and the display flowers on the various farms were superb.
We particularly liked the trekpad with its large variety of annual flowers.
We enjoyed the local cuisine at Matjiesfontein padstal & Smidswinkel restaurant.
