Getting here is an adventure. That is how we like you to experience this wild and wonderful drive that you have to tackle with a SUV, and not cars that’s low like a BMW. Make sure your cell phone battery is charged for your GPS connection, because during this 59km drive, there is only one road sign towards Mazeppa and you will need Google Maps as assistance. The best road is 10km north of Butterworth on the N2, turn off towards the east, at the Shell Fuelling Station in eBika. This is also a good pitstop to fill up your tank, deflate your tyres to 2 bars and buy your last essentials at the Spar. Now sit back, relax and enjoy Africa, isn’t this why you chose the Wild Coast? The rest of the journey is a gravel road with potholes, it is off the beaten track, scenic, and an experience. Be in the moment, watch out for the big five – pigs, cows, dogs, sheep and goats! Be patient and kind to the pedestrians, it is there home. Mazeppa Bay Hotel is at the end of this road. Turn left at the T-junction at Mazeppa and continue another 1000meters, we're the second last property on the right. Hmmm, smell that sea air.

Area Information:

Area activities around Mazeppa Bay:
Mazeppa Bay is famous for its exceptional fishing and swimming. We are just 20m from the sea and your first fishing spot.

Fishing:
The Island at Mazeppa Bay is a large headland feature separated from the shore by a channel of shallow water. For many years, The Island has been famous for its catches of big game fish and sharks. The gully separating The Island from the mainland can also be fished for small pan fish. Garrick, kob, and sharks can also be caught from the rocks at both ends of The Island.

However, angling at Mazeppa is not limited to The Island. There are several good spots along the shore, including Shark Point, Carlisle Gully and the Boiling Pot. Here, the water is deep and good catches of game fish and sharks are often made. You will need heavy tackle to fish these spots, and you are also encouraged to exercise caution while fishing at these spots as they can be quite dangerous.

Hiking:
And if you want to walk, stroll along the aptly named One Mile Beach, or venture into the Manubi Forest. The Manubi Forest offers an interesting nature experience for all nature lovers. There are walking trails through the Manubi Forest with its distinctive Yellowwood and Sneezewood trees that dominate the forest. Enjoy a day of exploring the indigenous forest and do a bit of birding.

The Forest is home to an abundance of bird and animal life and is a particular delight for bird and plant lovers alike.

Attractions:

The area is particularly famous for fishing. First Beach is lined with palm trees and has a 100 m suspension bridge which you can walk over to reach Mazeppa's renowned island. The island is perfect for deep sea fishing with stunning views of the coastline.
