Mukti is a lovingly curated self-catering Karoo heritage home, ideal for those seeking solitude and luxury, set in the tranquil village of Nieu-Bethesda. The village is quiet, and Mukti is located on the quieter western side of it too, watched over by the towering Compassberg.
‘Mukti’ is Sanskrit for spiritual liberation. We have always wanted a soulful, peaceful space where we can go to clear our minds and hearts and we found our little paradise in Nieu-Bethesda. The property was renovated extensively, whilst paying respect to the heritage and character of the home. The interiors have been beautifully curated and designed, with top quality bedding and utilities.
The home is air-conditioned and contains 2 spacious bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The main bedroom has a king-size bed, a mountain view and an en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom is a twin room, and also has an en-suite.
The home has a well-equipped kitchen with Smeg appliances and an original Dover stove. Enjoy dining on the raw wood dining table in the kitchen. The lounge area has a fireplace for cosy winter night’s and there is a library to curl up with a good book. Outside, there is a covered verandah with comfortable sofas and an outdoor dining table.
The home has a swimming pool which replicates a small Karoo farm dam and sun loungers for relaxing. There is also a firepit with seating to enjoy the stargazing. High speed internet access is available should you need to work.

Nieu-Bethesda is a village in the Eastern Cape at the foot of the Sneeuberge, approximately 50 km from Graaff Reinet. It was founded as a church town, like many other Karoo villages, and attained municipal status in 1886. Nieu-Bethesda was the last of the municipalities to receive electricity, as recently as 1991. The name is of biblical origin and means "place of flowing water", due to the constant flow of the mountain spring. This water is shared throughout the town via sluicegates that control the "lei water". The village is known for its unique energy. There are no fuel stations, ATM's or tarred roads, which adds to its beautiful, and for many, spiritually uplifting, charm.

Nieu Bethesda Reviews
Such a quaint little village. Make sure to arrive earlier in the day if you’re only staying for one night so that you have time to explore the village and quirky spots.
Owl house, Fossil Route, Labyrinth.
Recommended by a colleague and knowledge of The Owl House.
The Bushman Heritage Museum is a world class museum in addition to perfect quality gifts of quilts, pictures, amazing pillow cases and bags. The Tower B and B is excellent accommodation and food in quiet surroundings with remarkable landscape. Descendants of the bushmen tell you their amazing myths. Unforgettable.
Gem hidden in the Karoo! Take the trip, you will love it!
