On The Rocks welcomes you
...to the peace and beauty of nature to relax and rejuvenate body, soul and spirit. To experience old-fashioned hospitality, glorious sunsets and a scrumptious breakfast.
The guesthouse is situated on the beachfront of De Kelders, just before Gansbaai. Excellently placed for Whale-Watching – from your patio, bed or even while you shower!
Our rooms are individually styled and decorated to match your mood or personality. Equipped with all amenities for your comfort and not forgetting your own private balcony overlooking Walker Bay.
Area Information:Gansbaai is a peaceful old fishing village on Walker Bay. Known worldwide as the Capital of the Great White Shark, Gansbaai is also considered to offer the best boat and shore based Whale Watching. The Fynbos surrounding Gansbaai is a botanical haven, and the coastal sceneries are magic.
To understand why this little quaint old fishing village of Gansbaai is known as the Big 2 Town, let us tell you more about the big two, being sharks and whales.
Property Facilities:We pride ourselves in serving you a full and hearty South African breakfast – out on the patio or inside.
We wish you were here, we really do…
Attractions:During May to December of each year, the Gansbaai coastline becomes the home of the Southern Right Whale. They come from the Antarctic to the warmer waters of the South African Coast. Calves are mostly born during August, have an average length of 6.1 meters and weigh 1 ton at birth. They suckle for 4-8 months, drink up to 600 litres of milk per day and grow some 3 cm per day.
The Great White has become one of the most misunderstood, even hated animals on our planet. They have been pursued, hunted and indiscriminately slaughtered over the years, to the point where they have become an endangered specie. Therefore diving with these magnificent and mysterious creatures in a protected environment helps introduce an objective perspective and dispels some of the myth and fear that surround them.

Well appointed, clean and well equipped bedroom & bathroom, literally "On The Rocks"! You just cannot beat this view and location for the price anywhere in the world! You see, hear and smell the sea all the time. Full English breakfast, gracious hosts and Chloe the parrot keeps the whistling coming! The two house doggies make the longing for one's own dogs less! Delightful Stanford's Cove beach with grass and clean restroom just a short stroll away!
Just adding block-out to the white bedroom curtains will allow for sleep-ins and make the stay at this lovely B&B perfect! An overall wonderful and relaxing experience. We will most definitely return!
Sylvia and Tinus were amazing.
They could not do enough for us.
The room and view was fantastic.
So much food to choose from at breakfast.
Would definitely stay again.
Great venue, wonderful views. Very attentive service.
Amazing, definitely recommend them.
We stay in Cape Town but had never been to Gansbaai. We were thrilled with the friendliness of our host & hostess, the owners of "On the Rocks" B&B. The rooms were beautifully fitted out, comfortable & each had a private balcony with stunning views. The beach was a short walk away.
The breakfast was delicious & more than we could comfortably eat. Our hosts were informative, available & went out of their way to make our stay memorable. In fact we booked for one night & in the end stayed for three nights!
Highly recommended.
We loved our stay and would love to visit once more for a break and to see the wonderful fynbos in bloom going towards Baardskeurdersbos.
All the best.

De Kelders Reviews
Definitely a fantastic place to visit during whale season.
The views are just a true beauty of Nature. Walking trails, whales season. comes with the best accommodation in the area and restaurants too.
What a spectacular find, stunning view! A family birthday weekend blessed with good weather and whales to entertain us. Our every need was met, spacious, well equipped, eye for detail and just so welcoming. Thank you Ms Thelma, excellent service and thanks to the owners who allowed us to enjoy it too.
Breakfast in bed is what will keep you going back. Check in and check out went smoothly. Jonathan and Handre along with the staff is absolutely amazing people. Thank you❤️
I will be back.
De Kelders is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The views are simply magnificent. Long stretches of quiet beaches. Whale season is incredible, in 2018 we had more than a 1000 whales in the bay.
However, De Kelders is loved and cherished by well seasoned travelers who return year upon year.
The scenery of De Kelders.
