When the first settlers arrived in the Cape, Tulbagh was called ‘The Land of Waveren’. It was only in 1806 that it was renamed Tulbagh. In 1710 Morgansvlei estate was originally named Straatskerk and was leased to Jannetjie de Clerq. The current Governor of the Cape of Good Hope had leased it as one of the first five farms in the Tulbagh region.
Once the Morgan family took ownership of the farm, they restored it to its pristine beauty and began running a wine business from there. To this day it is a working estate and well worth a visit to find relaxation in the farmlands and walks through the orchards and vineyards on the property.
Morgansvlei is a stylish and romantic retreat for single-night getaways to 3-day weddings situated in historic Tulbagh Valley, only 75 minutes from Cape Town.
Accommodation at Morgansvlei is of a high standard with superior linen. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the dam, mountains, and vineyards as well as a spacious swimming pool, covered braai (barbecue), and entertainment area.
In Room Facilities:Each Spacious Room features a semi-private patio with an outstanding view, open fireplace, Victorian-styled en-suite, self-catering unit with bar fridge for comfort and convenience.
Area Information:Situated in historic Tulbagh Valley, only 75 minutes from Cape Town, the area itself is ideal for those wanting to either enjoy complete peace and tranquillity or wanting to get out a bit and experience Mother Nature in all her bountiful glory. Tulbagh Reviews
Our second visit and certainly not the last. So much to do and see!
Scenery
Wine, scenery, sunset
Beautiful, historic and quaint little town. Stroll down church street and have a roosterkoek at Kole & Deeg. Highly recommend the Gin Yard at Vindoux wine farm. The Spar gets ridiculously busy on long weekends so rather come prepared unless you want to stand in line for 30 mins. The Tulbagh Nursery is awesome if you’re into gardening and plants. And take the Bain’s Kloof pass if you want a beautiful scenic route!
The quaint town, the beautiful scenery, the olive tasting.
Everything!
Wine, the history side.
We found Tulbagh to be close enough to Cape Town for a quick weekend away with family & friends.
Clean town with stunning wine farms, wine tasting and lovely restaurants.
Very picturesque with great hiking, mountain biking trails.
Lots of convenient shops in the town.
Can't wait for our next visit.
We loved our Sunday lunch at Tulbagh Hotel and Champagne tasting at Krone.
We went to Essere lodge for a weekend and loved it! Have done many wine tastings at the surrounding farms, love going there often.
