As the administrative capital of the Southern Cape, George is a bustling town with modern infrastructure. Once an industrial centre, it has evolved into a key tourist destination, partly due to two of South Africa’s top ten golf courses, theatres, vast forests, rivers, and its proximity to the Indian Ocean. Although the area was only explored in 1688—long after Dias landed in Mossel Bay in 1488 in search of food and fresh water—the Khoi people who lived in this fertile valley referred to it as Outeniqualand, or the "land of milk and honey," a name that perfectly reflects its lush landscape. A settlement was established in 1811 and named George Town in honour of the reigning English monarch.
George has always had a laid-back, easygoing charm that allows visitors to fully appreciate its natural beauty. Hiking trails around the town offer sweeping views of both the town and the coastline, as well as a chance to experience the unique indigenous Fynbos. Notable trails include the Groene Weide forest walks, which begin at Saasveld College near one of the golf courses, and the more challenging George Peak and Cradock's Peak trails, which reward hikers with breathtaking panoramic views.

We had to find somewhere to stay for 1 night after our accommodation that we had, was cancelled.
Found this GEM on Lekker Slaap. Had a response from Esme within 5 min. We were flying back to PMB just after 9 the next day. So it was not even 5min drive from the airport. The rooms were spacious, clean and very well furnished. The country feel was amazing and affordable. Ill keep it on my list of where to stay.
The place is clean and very neat, the owners are very welcoming and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back there, it's also very secure.
The friendliness, the vibe they had going this time of the year, the beautiful scenery and the guest houses are amazing.
