The weather is perfect: far enough South to escape the heat of the Klein Karoo and far enough North to get away from the long, wet winters of the Cape. Excellent service from all concerned.
Lovely hotel with great service!!
Good food, service, and overall experience
We spent 2 wonderful nights at the Montagu Country Hotel and it was just perfect. The room (Art Deco Deluxe) was spacious and clean and nicely furnished.
The hotel has lots of details and pieces of lovely furniture abound. The established gardens create lovely shady spots to simply sit and have a drink and just relax. My fiancee used the Spa treatment and reported back to me as entirely satisfied !
We had dinner (twice) at the a la Carte restaurant and again, thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a perfect spot for a romantic candlelit dinner.
All the staff are very friendly. It really makes a difference and we always felt so very welcome.
We will be back !
decor and staff admirable
This is a super old style elegant hotel with all the mod cons and has exceptional service to match. Our room was beautiful, clean and had everything we needed to feel pampered and comfortable. Our dog, stand out feature for us was good, uninterrupted Wi-Fi with no connecting hassles. We will definitely be back for another stay.
I love the tranquility of the Hotel. Once you enter the foyer you feel far removed from the outside world. The reception lady and gent were very friendly and courteous. The decor is of a first class standard with lovely displays of antique crockery and furniture pieces.
My bedroom suite was comfortable and clean with a view of the back garden.
I never sleep well in any hotel on the first night but I had no problem at Montagu Hotel and the beautiful rain awoke me from a sound sleep.
I enjoyed a good breakfast, first from the buffet selection and then some hot bacon, mushrooms and a fried egg. The Monday I decided to have a light breakfast from the buffet only. The staff at breakfast on both mornings were attentive and pleasant. Mr Basson even apologized should the repair work have been noisy.
Went back on Monday evening to sample the restaurant menu. Will probably stay again once the roadworks are done.
Dit was heerlik! Friendly and helpful staff at all times! Clean and tidy bedrooms-en-suite with daily top-ups of tea/coffee requirements. Maintenance service always available to assist with checking air-conditioners, jacuzzi baths. etc. Breakfasts always pleasant and a good start to each day, while dinners were tasty and lekker with comfortable portions and variety of accompaniments. Our pet dog Jessie was on her best behavior and loved by all. Thank you for a most happy week in the Cape countryside.
We have just returned from the Montagu Country Hotel. What a lovely experience. The staff were wonderful and the food delicious. The décor was art deco and so interesting. Most enjoyable.
It was comfortable, with staff attuned to what was needed. However the light on all night outside my room (23 in the garden) were quite overpowering.

Beautiful setting, lot of attractions around.
Wonderful atmosphere and most welcoming and friendly residents. A true Gem with beautiful views and excellent hiking experiences. A peaceful and beautiful place with lots of exciting activities for everyone
The tranquility, historical few places, cleanliness and friendly inhabitants.
Came up to Montagu for a climbing course with Blue Mountain Adventures and stayed at the Tolhuis with two friends. It was just perfect. Firstly the location, it was only mere meters away from our first day's location for climbing , LEGOLAND. We could literally stop and walk up to our accommodation for a coffee and lunch break! The place itself was just perfect for the 3 of us. Great little braai area where we enjoyed our evenings and the place is simple and humble yet stylish! The hosts, Michelle, Ivan, and Jason their 6-month-old puppy were just very warm and accommodating. Thank you!
Climbing at Lego Land, Hiking, and cycling (there is a little history town cycle tour).
Quietness and peace.
The beautiful nature. The view of the mountain.
