The Riverhouse is a charming family house with stunning 180-degree views of the estuary, Bergriver and Atlantic. The Riverhouse is but 20 meters away from the slipway (referred to as Rooibaai by locals) giving the boat owner direct access to water sports or angling on the Berg River. For the ones with larger boats, access to the sea where you can find snoek, kabeljou, yellowtail or lobster. The best of both worlds!
Fishing or angling can be done in abundance from the jetty or Berg Riverbank. Velddrif is perfectly situated for a quick drive to either Langebaan, Vredenburg, Paternoster, St Helena Bay, Elandsbay and Lambertsbay. Come see the beautiful spring flowers all along the West Cast and go for scenic walks or boat trips along the river.
Laaiplek started off as a small fishing community. It is also be told that farmers in earlier years that stayed along the Berg River, transported their wheat and goods along the river to the sea (Laaiplek) to be shipped to Melkbos/Cape Town.....in those earlier years Laaiplek was also referred to as "Brood op die Water". (Bread on the Water).
The annual Berg River Canoe Marathon ends around the bend from the Riverhouse. Beautiful sail boats, fishing boats and yachts pass Riverhouse on a daily basis. Just of the deck of Riverhouse you'll find the slipway where locals launch their fishing boats and often return from sea with hulls filled to brim with the day's catch. Buy your fish fresh from the fisherman.....best way to do it!
The Riverhouse's distinctly West Coast inspired dècor creates simplicity and function. Decorated in soft and cool colours you experience a calming and spacious feeling.
It offers luxury West Coast accommodation for up to six guests: main bedroom, queen size bed, with own en-suite, opens up on veranda facing the river; bedroom with 2 single beds that can be arranged to a king-size bed and 3rd bedroom with double bed. All linen and towels will be provided.
Above the kitchen and living area is a large loft that features as a TV-room with television and small music centre that can use DVD's, CD's, Mp3's and is also a I-pod docking station. (No dish) With it's own separate shower, basin and toilet, this area can double-up as an extra sleeping space.
The comfortable open plan kitchen and living area are extended to outside with zig-zag sliding door and shutters, that actually connect you with the outside. It creates a lovely airy and spacious feeling.
The Kitchen is modern and fully equipped with a gas-top stove and electric oven, microwave and fridge with freezer compartment. Also is a movable food preparation counter that can be moved between inside and outside braai-areas for comfort. The veranda is probably the area where quests spend most of their time. It features a large wind sheltered braai and the extended wooden deck floor give you ample space to relax and watch yacts go by or the most perfect sunsets ever!
The Riverhouse is well situated with easy access to shops and restaurants. Langebaan and Club Mykanos is a 20 min drive away. Paternoster and Tieties bay is nothing more than a 30 min drive. For a relaxing or adventurous time - do your booking now!

Lovely home, comfortable, exceptionally clean and was lovely staying there
Beautiful scenery and very tranquil. Kids enjoyed playing in the sand and the views were spectacular. Loved every minute of it and will definitely go again.
Fabulous time had by all !!!!
A peaceful "luilekker" weekend breakaway so close to Cape Town - we will definitively again make use of Riverhouse again in future! Situated at the best spot in town with the greatest views of fisherman at work, yachts and boats on/from their way to/from sea...awesome sunsets!!! Whaauww!

The views ...
Great restaurant ... not too much else
Fishing
Great set up and very organized.
A good place to explore the west coast from as it’s setting is great on the marina. The marina is definitely the best place to stay. Gorgeous views and sunsets on the water. Russell’s on the Port for sundowners or a meal and Charlie’s brewery are really great- both in the Marina. The marina is definitely the place to stay in the area and I can recommend a few easily accessible trips from there. Alegria restaurant en route to St Helena is great and has a fantastic seaside setting. Really gorgeous.A visit to Hopefield to Simply bee is well worth it to buy their products as well as have a coffee and a cake or savoury board. It also has a beauty salon and bee observation and decor shop. There is also a quaint restaurant next door called Hello. It’s a quaint little town with a few shops to browse- don’t miss the craft shop with dolls house miniatures that are amazing. A day trip to Paternoster is also worth the drive as it has lots of shops to visit and a good few restaurants, galleries and coffee shops. Just be careful of opportunists. All the towns are roughly 20-30 minutes away so an easy drive. All in all we enjoyed the area.
