*De Kelders is a peaceful village known to be the best whale-watching site and shark-cage diving in South Africa. Whale Sanctuary Lodge is located right on the cliffs and there are many little pathways across the cliffs for those who like taking long walks
*Fabulous restaurant next door and a local coffee shop nearby. Hermanus is 30 minutes away.
*"De Kelders" is the Afrikaans name for The Caves. Numerous larger and smaller caves penetrate deep into the rock formations under the houses of De Kelders. Famous is the Freshwater cave. This is a very deep cave leading to what seems to be an underground swimming pool. Due to conservation measures, this cave is not open to the public at present. What the locals call "Duiwelsgat" (The hole of the Devil) is not really a cave, but therefore perhaps even more impressive. This hole which got its official name from the many pigeons that nested there ("Duiwegat") is connecting the surface of the rock formations with the ocean. Looking down into the hole (not advised for people with vertigo) you will see the waves of the ocean rolling in and out at the bottom.

De Kelders Reviews
Definitely a fantastic place to visit during whale season.
The views are just a true beauty of Nature. Walking trails, whales season. comes with the best accommodation in the area and restaurants too.
What a spectacular find, stunning view! A family birthday weekend blessed with good weather and whales to entertain us. Our every need was met, spacious, well equipped, eye for detail and just so welcoming. Thank you Ms Thelma, excellent service and thanks to the owners who allowed us to enjoy it too.
Breakfast in bed is what will keep you going back. Check in and check out went smoothly. Jonathan and Handre along with the staff is absolutely amazing people. Thank you❤️
I will be back.
De Kelders is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The views are simply magnificent. Long stretches of quiet beaches. Whale season is incredible, in 2018 we had more than a 1000 whales in the bay.
However, De Kelders is loved and cherished by well seasoned travelers who return year upon year.
The scenery of De Kelders.
