WORLD-CLASS ATTRACTION, ONSITE!
The Bushman Heritage Museum
An immersive experience into the wisdom of the /Xam
For thousands of years, the /Xam Bushman lived in the Great Karoo. Within 250 years of the coming of the Dutch and English settlers, they had been driven into extinction. But they had a profound understanding of the creation of the sun, moon, and stars, and world. Their stories are startlingly relevant in our current times of environmental catastrophe. They were saved by a sort of miracle, in a manuscript that has been studied and interpreted in giant tapestries and the Bushman Heritage Museum for twenty Years by Bushman descendants.
We offer:
Gallery of Tapestries, with a guide to explain the stories
(Entrance Fee R65)
A gallery shop to purchase original lino prints and textiles made at the museum,
A licensed Café, with an excellent choice of wines. We have a reputation as being one of the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants/Café in the Karoo with seasonal vegetables we grow in our community garden. Creative light meals are always available. We serve a variety of meat dishes, specializing in Karoo lamb - lamb shank and our famous lamb curry are very popular.
Warm hospitality and a chance to talk with our Bushman artist who runs the Centre.

Great ...
Stunning place to stay! Simple accommodations but everything you need.
You could hardly come across friendlier and warmer staff; they were welcoming and lovely all around! Although the accommodation was fairly basic, the Tower Breakfast was absolutely scrumptious and prepared with love. From the fresh bread straight from the oven, the farm butter and the thick apricot jam, to the eggs with HUGE yolks, good bacon and freshly fried chips, to the pot of filter coffee with hot milk, everything was well-prepared and we enjoyed every morsel. Well done to the chef/s!
The Bethesda Tower is such a unique accommodation experience in a very unique little South African village. Gerald and his team were so welcoming and friendly. The rooms were lovely and clean, and the dinner served in the restaurant was scrumptious! Our 2 girls also loved the novel experience of sleeping in their own Rapunzel tower! If we pass through Nieu-Bethesda again we would not hesitate booking here again.
Was a unique experience. Thoroughly enjoyed Bethesda Tower. Beds were comfortable and rooms spotless. It’s not a luxury stay. But that’s not what we were looking for. The staff are amazing and was a great opportunity to connect with the local friendly people of Nieu Bethesda. Rooms are not en suite but was not a problem. We loved it !! And super cheap ... would love to go back !
A wonderful and interesting town. A must see!
Had a lovely stay at the Bethesda Tower! The room was very cozy and beautiful and I LOVE the round bed! Hilton is an excellent host. Good value for money.
It is a magical place to stay - the staff are so welcoming.
Amazing service and amazing people! Bethesda Tower is a gem hidden in the Karoo. And the Food!! Absolutely top class - we ate like kings.
Thank you so much, we will be back for sure:-)
We had a lovely night in the twin room in the Bethesda Tower, and felt very welcome with our little dog too. We didn’t realize before we arrived that the bathroom was only accessible by an outdoor staircase, so we wouldn’t recommend the Bethesda Tower to the elderly, but for us it was perfectly suitable.
Hilton and the staff were very welcoming and cooked a delicious dinner. We greatly enjoyed our time in Nieu Bethesda.

Nieu Bethesda Reviews
Such a quaint little village. Make sure to arrive earlier in the day if you’re only staying for one night so that you have time to explore the village and quirky spots.
Owl house, Fossil Route, Labyrinth.
Recommended by a colleague and knowledge of The Owl House.
The Bushman Heritage Museum is a world class museum in addition to perfect quality gifts of quilts, pictures, amazing pillow cases and bags. The Tower B and B is excellent accommodation and food in quiet surroundings with remarkable landscape. Descendants of the bushmen tell you their amazing myths. Unforgettable.
Gem hidden in the Karoo! Take the trip, you will love it!
